Many of the comments I see here seem to be about allocating blame. This neatly illustrates a crucial point. No one nation is going to be the first to step up alone and make the necessary changes because to do so would critically endanger their competitiveness in the global market place. Any politician risking his nation’s competitiveness is, in the current system of destructive international competition committing career suicide.
There is only one answer – global simultaneous policy implementation. Only in this way can we remove the fear of first mover disadvantage that paralyses modern politics. Only via Simpol can the voters force their political leaders to take action together to face this and other challenges.
